OEM vs ODM vs private label makeup brushes: which route fits?

Private label brands existing constructions; OEM follows your drawing or reference sample; ODM starts from a numbered finished design. Typical MOQ is 1,000 pieces or 500 sets; development samples are charged and credited on a production order. Choose the route that matches how much of the brush is already decided, then brief PRETTY’s Cangzhou factory via /project.

Private label: brand on existing constructions.

Private label puts your logo, colours, set mix and packaging on an existing brush or coordinated set. Construction stays close to a known profile so sampling focuses on branding, finish and pack-out rather than inventing a new head from scratch. Use this route when the collection roles are clear and you mainly need brand presentation.

OEM: produce to your drawing or reference sample.

OEM starts from your idea, drawing or physical reference. You define what must match and what may change. Sampling reviews head shape, dimensions, fibre feel, ferrule and handle finish, logo and packaging against that brief. Choose OEM when the brush identity is already decided and the factory must reproduce or adapt that standard.

ODM / ready-to-rebrand: start from numbered finished designs.

ODM or ready-to-rebrand work begins with one of PRETTY’s numbered finished designs that publish dimensions where the drawings supply them. You adapt colour, logo, packaging or selected construction details from that reference instead of briefing a blank page. It is a practical middle path when you want a measurable starting point before a deeper OEM redesign.

How MOQ and sampling usually differ by route.

Across OEM, ODM and private label, typical minimums are 1,000 pieces for an individual brush design and 500 sets for coordinated brush sets. Development samples are charged; when you place a production order, the sample fee can be credited against that order. Exact sample category and fee depend on specification, artwork, packaging and any new development—PRETTY does not publish a single fixed sample dollar amount. Unusual finishes or new tooling may need confirmation beyond those typical figures.

Custom sets and travel kits still need a route choice.

A multi-piece set can use private-label branding on existing shapes, OEM construction for unique pieces, or ODM adaptations of numbered designs—often mixed inside one collection. Travel and compact kits add pouch or box fit checks on top of the brush brief. State the route per SKU so the quotation and sample scope stay aligned.

What to send next.

Send the preferred route, selected references or drawings, intended formulas, quantity in pieces or sets, logo and packaging status, destination market and target arrival date. PRETTY reviews the proposed construction at its own factory in Cangzhou, Hebei, China, then confirms sampling and production for that configuration. Lead times are agreed stage by stage after sampling—not as a single published day count.

Questions buyers ask next

OEM vs ODM vs private label—which should a startup beauty brand choose?

Most first collections start private label or ODM from numbered designs so branding and pack-out can move faster. Choose OEM when you already have a drawing or reference sample that must be matched. Confirm MOQ (typically 1,000 pieces or 500 sets) and charged, order-credited samples for the selected route.

Does private label mean the factory invents a new brush head?

Not usually. Private label brands an existing construction with your logo, colour, set mix and packaging. New head geometry is an OEM or deeper custom conversation.

Can one order mix OEM pieces and private-label pieces?

Often yes inside a collection, but each design still needs a clear route, quantity unit and sample reference so the quote matches the PO. State which SKUs are OEM versus private label or ODM.

Where are PRETTY’s brushes manufactured?

In PRETTY’s own makeup brush factory in Cangzhou, Hebei, China. The registered office published on About is an office / company registration address and is kept separate; no factory street address is published.

Apply this to your product brief.

A new brand may private-label a five-piece everyday set from existing shapes, while reserving OEM only for one hero face brush that must match a proprietary drawing.
